We are looking for a VP Engineering

Giant Swarm is a fast growing open source infrastructure management platform used by modern enterprises. Our vision is to empower developers around the world to ship great products.

As our Kubernetes platform grows, so does our team. We’re currently looking for a VP Engineering with experience in managing cross-functional teams to join us.

We're a distributed, diverse, and growing team, spread across Europe. The company is based in Cologne, Germany, where we have a small office in a coworking space. However, only a few people work there. All workflows are created to function remotely - but of course, if you want to visit Cologne, you are more than welcome!

While we are remote first, we appreciate quality time with our co-workers, so we meet in person twice a year to work and have fun together.

Work-life integration

Your Job

  • You will ensure that team setup, tech strategy and architecture are well-aligned with the business strategy and pay into the vision of the company.
  • As you will become part of the (to be established) management team, you give constant input in strategy and organizational matters while making sure that our day-to-day operations are run.
  • You will be a mentor and a coach to our cross-functional and self-organized engineering teams. You help them through dealing with daily challenges and maintaining velocity as a growing team. “Helping” is the keyword here.
  • You live the change. As we are growing, team structures, functions, and roles may change quickly. We consider ourselves to be agile - but definitely not from the guidebook.
  • You take part in the hiring process of new team members for our engineering teams

Requirements

  • You have 8+ years of experience in a tech-driven environment. You know our ecosystem and have gained knowledge in enterprise software, cloud, open source, and distributed systems. You have professional experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure.
  • You take care of people - This means, you have a proven track record in building and guiding teams. We are not looking for a certain leadership style - but servant leadership should ring a bell. As we are a 100% remote, self-organized and international team, you should support this way of working and have answers for the challenges ready.
  • You have 4+ years of experience in being responsible for teams with more than 30 members.
